“If you can talk you can sing”

Well here we are, 2 weeks away from our Annual concert and what a show it is going to be! It’s been a very busy few months but we are buzzing about sharing our exciting new repertoire and know that all the hard work will be worth it. One of the highlights building up to this concert has been the number of new members we have welcomed into the choir, all bringing their own unique tone to the harmony.

We often hear people say “I can’t sing for the life of me!”  but , in the words of one of our newest members, Annex, “if you can talk you can sing”. Here’s what she has got to say about joining our choir…

“If you can talk you can sing” a teacher once told me. I believed him and immediately joined my high school’s choir. However, having not sang seriously since then I was, on one hand, a tad apprehensive when my friend Beatrice asked me to join the Reading Community Gospel Choir and chuffed on the other (their ‘no auditions’ policy helped!) There is something greatly moving about singing in a choir. People from all walks of life commit to singing at least once a week stepping out from the dimming streets into a lighter world created through song. The choir itself is a social highlight. But there is more. I feel, after rehearsals, at a higher level of mental well-being. It gives me a spiritual high that carries me through the week. I leave wanting more and enchanted by individuals who come together to mould and fine tune raw sound into song.

 Sounds of Gospel

At Rcomgos we are proud of the fact that everyone is supportive of each other. We guide and help each individual to sing harmoniously which unifies the choir and enables us to sing with great passion and in one accord. Our Annual concert ‘Sounds of Gospel‘ on Saturday 29th November 2014 at The Concert Hall, is going to be a joyful celebration of gospel music that will touch the heart and we feel blessed that we can share it with you all. With a mix of classic gospel, negro spirituals and contemporary songs, we are going to create a musical fusion of funky, soulful, groovy and up-lifting music that really makes you move.
